Illiana Christian’s varsity boys tennis team began its season in dominant fashion with a 5–0 sweep of Kankakee Valley on Monday. The Vikings controlled each singles and doubles match, never allowing their opponent to gain rhythm.
From the first serve, Illiana dictated tempo. The singles lineup showcased poise with clean returns and consistent baseline pressure. Doubles teams complemented the effort with sharp communication and aggressive net play, closing out sets quickly.
Coaches highlighted the team’s preparation and mental focus as decisive factors. With multiple players contributing evenly across the board, Illiana proved that its depth extends well beyond the top of the roster. Each court displayed composure, suggesting the Vikings will remain a tough matchup regardless of position.
The victory also gave younger players an early glimpse of varsity-level pressure, with several underclassmen inserted late for valuable experience. Their ability to adapt and maintain intensity offered another bright spot for the program.
Illiana Christian now looks ahead to conference play, aiming to translate this early dominance into consistent performances as the season intensifies.
