The Illiana Christian Varsity Vikings out-hit the Westfield Varsity Shamrocks 7-6 but came up short in a 7-2 women’s varsity softball loss Friday at Kokomo High School.
Illiana Christian struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on Mya VanderWoude’s sacrifice fly in the second. Lauren Mish stretched it to 2-0 with an RBI single to left in the third.
Westfield broke the game open with a four-run sixth. Alyssa Ayers cut the lead with an RBI groundout, Cam Pulice tied things up with a run-scoring single, and Makayla Watson capped the rally with a two-run homer to center. The Shamrocks tacked on three more in the seventh to put it away.
Olivia Sampia earned the win in relief for Westfield, tossing two scoreless innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts. Bailey Kelley took the loss after allowing three runs on a hit and two walks in an inning of work. Grayce Scheeringa started for Illiana Christian and surrendered four runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings.
Mish led the Vikings with three hits, while Olivia Daliege went 2-for-3. Watson paced Westfield with two RBIs.
