Illiana Christian wasted no time getting to work Saturday afternoon, scoring five runs in the first three innings and cruising to a 6-2 victory over Bellmont.
Mya VanderWoude started the onslaught with a two-run single in the first. The Vikings added three more in the third when Lauren Mish tripled to center, VanderWoude followed with an RBI single and Sofia Dunnett drove in the final run of the frame with another single to center.
Gracye Scheeringa was rock solid on the mound for the complete-game win. The right-hander allowed just three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five while walking five. Bellmont’s Adisyn Radecki took the loss after surrendering 11 hits and six runs (two earned) in seven innings.
The Vikings piled up 11 hits total. VanderWoude went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to pace the offense. Lauren Mish, Lauren Kreykes, Emmy Jansma and VanderWoude each collected two hits. Illiana Christian played error-free defense and turned one double play. Olivia Daliege handled a team-high six chances in the field.
Bellmont managed only three hits. Carissa Mickley accounted for both Braves runs with her lone hit in three at-bats. OnaLee Krueckeberg, Izzy Isch and Mickley each had one hit while the team drew five walks, including two from Taylor Sutter.
