Illiana Christian continued to build momentum during the 2026 softball season, using a balanced lineup and strong pitching to establish itself as one of the area’s competitive programs. They finished the season with a record of 16-10.
The offense was led by Lauren Mish, who finished with a .532 batting average and a .591 on-base percentage, while Mya VanderWoude supplied the power with four home runs. Speed was also a weapon for the Vikings, as Emmy Jansma stole 15 bases during the season. In the circle, freshman Grayce Scheeringa emerged as a key contributor, posting a 3.24 ERA and helping anchor the pitching staff.
Illiana Christian showed it could compete with quality opponents throughout the spring, earning convincing victories over Whiting (13-2 and 12-2), Hammond Bishop Noll (10-0), Marian Catholic (4-2), and River Forest (12-0).
Unfortunately, the Vikings’ season came to a close on May 28, sparked by their postseason loss against Kankakee Valley.
Although every season presents challenges, the Vikings developed a strong foundation through timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and dependable pitching. The production from a talented young core gives Illiana Christian plenty of optimism heading into next season.
