Illiana Christian High School’s varsity volleyball team achieved a decisive 3–0 victory over Kankakee Valley in sectional action at Wheatfield on October 17th.
According to the school’s report, the Vikings advanced with set wins of 25–17, 25–22, and 25–20. Illiana established an early lead with a balanced offense and consistent serving. Senior Dorothy Leep contributed significantly with eight kills and five digs during the match.
Sophomore Josie Balkema added seven kills, while sophomore Karaline Kuiper impressed with a .417 hitting percentage and five total blocks. The Vikings’ service game was pivotal; senior I. Borrero recorded five aces and 15 assists, while junior Grace Wonder and senior Ava Bercot combined for six more aces and strong serve-receive play.
Defensively, Bercot led the back row with a team-high 13 digs, helping restrict the Kougars to under .150 hitting across all sets. With this win, Illiana Christian (25-26) progresses further into the postseason. The Vikings are set to face the winner of the Andrean–Hanover Central matchup on Saturday.
