The Illiana Christian Varsity Vikings rolled to a 12-4 women’s varsity softball win over the Rochester Varsity Zebras on Saturday at Kokomo High School.
Sofia Dunnett’s RBI double opened the scoring in the second before Illiana Christian erupted for five runs in the third. Emmy Jansma’s RBI single, Lauren Mish’s two-run double, Mya VanderWoude’s RBI triple, and a steal of home fueled the rally. The Vikings tacked on four more in the fourth and capped the offense with VanderWoude’s solo homer to center in the sixth.
Grayce Scheeringa earned the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits across four innings with four strikeouts. Bailey Kelley followed with three shutout innings of one-hit relief. Brailyn Hunter took the loss for Rochester, giving up six runs over three innings.
Mish drove in four runs on a 2-for-4 day, while Jansma led the team with three hits. Boehrnsen, Kreykes, and VanderWoude each added multiple hits as the Vikings totaled 14 and stole eight bases.
