The road win on May 12 featured a blend of early offense and dominant pitching that powered the Vikings to a conference shutout.
The Vikings struck quickly with two runs in the first inning and added three more in the third before tacking on two in the fifth to build a comfortable lead. Their lineup produced nine hits, led by senior Tanner Post, who went 3‑for‑4 with four RBIs and a double to pace the attack. Senior Spencer Bandstra added two hits, two runs, and a triple, while freshman Cayden Rasmason drove in two runs on a 1‑for‑4 day.
Illiana also applied pressure on the bases, swiping five total bases, including two from Bandstra and one each from Jonathan Sitter, Post, and Nick Deblock.
On the mound, the Vikings were nearly flawless. Three pitchers combined for a three‑hit shutout, striking out six and issuing only two walks. Sophomore Matt Tameling anchored the effort with four innings of two‑hit, zero‑run pitching, while Bandstra and Sitter each added scoreless frames to close out the win.
Backed by clean defense and steady production throughout the lineup, Illiana controlled every phase of the game in a convincing shutout victory.
