Illiana Christian senior Caden Morrissey closed his wrestling career with a strong postseason run, earning a berth at the IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Finals and highlighting the Vikings’ presence in one of Indiana’s most competitive weight classes.
Morrissey advanced through the postseason series during February competition, finishing fourth at the sectional, regional and semi-state levels before qualifying for state through the East Chicago Central Semi-State.
Competing at 138 pounds, Morrissey finished the season with a 25-8 overall record while facing several ranked opponents throughout the year. His postseason included a major decision victory over Hanover Central’s Noah Sinnott and a key 13-10 decision against Rensselaer Central’s Alfredo Origel. Morrissey also added a 9-7 decision over Chesterton’s Luke Johnson during tournament competition, demonstrating his ability to compete in close matches against strong fields.
At semi-state, Morrissey secured victories over Origel and Culver Academies’ Cole Meiser to earn a fourth-place finish and punch his ticket to the state finals. He later faced top-ranked competition, including Lowell’s Evan Stanley and Penn’s Angelo Vargo, gaining valuable experience on Indiana’s biggest stage.
Morrissey’s senior season concluded a career defined by persistence, postseason success and representing Illiana Christian wrestling at the state level.
