Illiana Christian Boys Wrestling competed at the IHSAA Boys Semi-State at East Chicago Central, highlighted by Caden Morrissey’s fourth-place finish at 138 pounds.
The semi-state was held Feb. 14 at East Chicago Central High School, where Illiana Christian faced a competitive Class A field featuring many of the top wrestlers in northwest Indiana. The Vikings were represented by Benjamin Armstrong at 126 pounds and Morrissey at 138, with both battling through challenging brackets in postseason action.
Morrissey, a senior, opened the tournament with a 13-10 decision over Alfredo Origel in the championship round of 16, holding off a late push to secure the win. He followed with a 5-2 quarterfinal victory over Cole Meiser, controlling the pace and advancing to the semifinals. Morrissey’s run ended in the semifinal round with a fall, moving him into the consolation bracket. He ultimately placed fourth after the third-place match, finishing 2-2 on the day and earning 11 team points for the Vikings.
Morrissey’s podium finish capped his senior campaign and marked Illiana Christian’s top performance at the semi-state level this season as the Vikings concluded their postseason competition at East Chicago Central.
