Porter guides Illiana Christian softball youth

0Comments

Illiana Christian softball enters the 2026 season with a youthful roster under coach Mark Porter, as the Vikings look to develop a growing core while remaining competitive throughout the year.

The team features a mix of underclassmen and key upperclass leadership, highlighted by senior Cayden Petersen, who brings versatility as both a pitcher and outfielder. Petersen provides stability in the circle and experience in high-leverage situations, giving the Vikings a reliable presence on both sides of the ball.

Junior Lucy Sjoquist and Mya VanderWoude add valuable experience, each capable of contributing in the infield and behind the plate. Their ability to move between positions allows Illiana Christian to adjust defensively and maintain consistency throughout the lineup.

The roster is largely built around a strong sophomore class, including Lauren Kreykes, Lauren Mish, Jaya Okrasinski, Cheyanne Colvin, Olivia Daliege, Emmy Jansma and Sofia Dunnett, all expected to take on larger roles this season. Freshmen Talia Boehrnsen and Grayce Scheeringa provide added depth, with Scheeringa offering another pitching option.

With a versatile lineup and developing chemistry, Illiana Christian will aim to grow steadily and compete as the season progresses.
