Tanner Post delivered a masterpiece on the mound and the Illiana Christian Vikings erupted for seven runs in the third inning, cruising to a 10-0 victory over Chicago Christian on Saturday.
The game took place on Saturday, April 25, at Illiana Christian High School.
Post struck out 12 batters and walked three while throwing five hitless, scoreless innings to earn the win. The Vikings opened the scoring in the first when Jonathan Sitter grounded out to plate a run, then added another in the second on Nick DeBlock’s RBI groundout to make it 3-0.
The floodgates opened in the third. Logan VanProoyen, Niko Slavich, Micah McGuire and DeBlock each drove in a run, and Sitter capped the seven-run outburst with a two-run double. The Vikings piled up nine hits total, with Sitter driving in three runs and Spencer Bandstra going 2-for-2 at the top of the lineup. Connor Krause stole two bases as Illiana Christian swiped eight bags in all.
Chicago Christian starter Tyce Hamstra took the loss after allowing 10 runs on eight hits in three innings as the mercy rule was invoked after five innings.
