Illiana Christian delivered a well‑rounded team showing at the IHSAA Boys Regional on May 28 in Valparaiso, placing athletes in multiple finals and producing competitive marks across distance, hurdles, and relays.
The Vikings opened their evening in the 800 meters, where senior Alan Kuzmar ran 2:07.68 to finish 16th in a tightly packed heat that featured several of the region’s top mid‑distance runners.
Illiana’s distance group continued to contribute throughout the meet. Freshman Mason Drost earned top‑10 finishes in both the 1600 and 3200, running 4:27.49 for third in the 1600 and 9:50.77 for sixth in the 3200. His performances added a valuable scoring presence to a lineup that relied on depth rather than a single event group.
In the hurdles, sophomore Joey O’Connor advanced to the finals of the 300 hurdles, placing 11th in 43.14 and giving Illiana representation in one of the meet’s most competitive technical events.
The Vikings also produced two complete relay efforts. The 4×800 relay finished fifth overall in 8:18.46, one of the team’s strongest results of the night, while the 4×400 closed the meet with a 13th‑place finish in 3:37.84.
Illiana’s balanced regional performance showcased a roster built on development, range, and steady postseason progression.
