Illiana Christian High School’s girls cross country team looks toward fall competition under coach Luke Fennema, with assistance from Paul West. The program seeks to elevate its presence in both league and sectional meets after a solid showing last season.
Training this summer has centered on advancing aerobic endurance, tightening race strategies, and building mental grit. Workouts include interval sessions, pace tempo runs, and fine-tuning finishing speed. Several returning varsity runners provide consistency and leadership, while promising underclass athletes push for spots through strong performance in scrimmages and timed trials.
Early scrimmages and invitationals will serve as benchmarks, helping the coaching staff refine race-day lineups and identify pairings for the all-important conference meets. The Vikings’ advantage lies in their blend of race-savvy veterans and eager newcomers building toward sectional success.
With refined conditioning, growing roster depth, and Fennema’s steady direction, the girls squad is poised to accelerate forward in 2025 and reassert itself among the region’s top programs in cross country.
