For the first time in its 80-year history, Illiana Christian High School will field a boys football team this fall, marking a major milestone for the Vikings. The program will debut with a junior varsity squad in the 2025–26 school year, with the goal of adding a varsity team by 2027.
Athletic Director Darren DeBoer announced the initiative during the school’s “Illiana Insights” podcast, explaining that launching football required adequate facilities, enrollment, and funding to align. The Vikings’ soccer field will double as the football home, now upgraded with new artificial turf made possible by an anonymous donor.
The coaching staff is actively recruiting players, reaching out to incoming sophomores and working closely with other school coaches to assemble the roster. Their collective background spans area high schools, including experience in game planning, player development, and strength and conditioning.
As the program builds, Illiana Christian is also preparing for a conference shift. Beginning in 2026–27, the school will compete in the Northwest Crossroads Conference, moving up from its current spot in the Greater South Shore Conference.
For Illiana Christian, this inaugural season marks more than just a new sport—it’s the start of a lasting tradition.
