A strong start turned into a statement win for Illiana Christian on Saturday as the Vikings dispatched Marquette Catholic in straight sets, 25–18, 25–20 and 25–23. The performance pushed Illiana to a 4–3 record and provided a needed boost after a tough early-season schedule.
Leep, a key offensive weapon, notched 15 kills, while Borrero kept the tempo with 17 assists and three aces. Their combination set the tone, but the Vikings also benefited from timely defensive stops and consistent energy across the rotation. Each set featured stretches where Illiana widened the gap with sharp passing and disciplined blocking.
Players credited the home crowd with sparking momentum, helping the team dig out of a late third-set rally by Marquette. The result gave Illiana back-to-back home victories and a chance to build rhythm as the season shifts toward heavier conference play.
The Vikings’ next test comes Monday on the road against Victory Christian Academy. Another win could mark a turning point for a roster still finding its identity but showing flashes of strong postseason potential.
