Illiana Christian girls soccer kicked off its season in fine form Tuesday, defeating Kankakee Valley 4–1 on the road. The Vikings now stand 1–0, a confident start as conference play approaches.
The offense opened in balance, with four different scorers—Addy Mills, Ashlee VanderMeer, Adelia Eriks and Alex Cruz—providing the goals. Each finish resulted from different setups, highlighting the depth and unpredictability of Illiana’s attack.
The back line, aided by controlled midfield possession, held firm until late in the second half when Cheyenne Flatt scored for the Cougars. Goalkeeper and defenders coordinated well to limit scoring chances, making room for the Vikings to build momentum with ball control and support from substitutions.
Coaches said the fluidity of passing and team cohesion—especially among freshmen and upperclassmen—made the difference in a quick turnaround from practices to game rhythm.
Following their opener, Illiana faced Highland on Aug. 26 and Lowell on Aug. 28 as part of a busy early stretch. The results of those contests will help further define the Vikings’ identity, but their debut showed signs of a steady, multi-threat team capable of competing across the board this season.
