Illiana Christian’s boys volleyball squad battled through a five‑set thriller at Kouts on May 5, ultimately emerging with a 3–2 victory.
The Vikings opened strong with a 25–14 win in the first set, stumbled in the second, but regained control in the third. After dropping the fourth, they sealed the match with a decisive fifth set to secure the road triumph.
The attack was balanced, with Sam Kramer leading the way at the net with 14 kills on 53 swings. Daniel Dykstra added 8 kills, while Arend van Belle and Z. Vander Woude chipped in 9 apiece. Jacob Rozendal contributed 4 kills and was instrumental in ball distribution, tallying 36 assists to orchestrate the offense.
Defensively, the Vikings were anchored by Gavin Voss, who posted a team‑high 21 digs, and Rozendal, who added 17. Ethan Sandifer was a wall in the back row with 29 digs, helping Illiana withstand Kouts’ surges. At the net, J. Vander Woude and Z. Vander Woude combined for 13 total blocks, frustrating the Mustangs’ hitters.
Illiana finished with 46 kills, 62 digs, and 15 service aces, showcasing grit and resilience. The victory highlighted the Vikings’ depth and ability to respond under pressure, setting a confident tone for the rest of their season.
