Illiana Christian used a balanced scoring effort and timely defense to secure a 39-35 nonconference victory over Hanover Central, closing out a tightly contested matchup at home.
The game was played Feb. 21 at Illiana Christian High School in Dyer, Indiana, as the Vikings hosted the Wildcats in late-season nonconference action.
Illiana Christian controlled key stretches despite a low-scoring pace throughout the night. The Vikings finished 14-of-37 from the field and converted 7-of-9 free throws, capitalizing on opportunities at the line to maintain separation. Sophomore Emmitt Wondaal led the offense with 11 points while adding two rebounds and multiple defensive contributions. Junior Colin O’Hara added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, helping anchor the Vikings on the glass. Dane Van Essen and G. Roozeboom each contributed six points, while Aidan Drost added five points on efficient shooting.
Defensively, Illiana Christian forced 12 turnovers and limited Hanover Central’s offensive rhythm during key stretches, particularly in the second half as the Wildcats attempted to rally late.
The Vikings moved forward in their late-season schedule following the victory as postseason play approached across Indiana high school basketball.
The win added another competitive chapter between the Northwest Indiana programs, with both teams continuing to prepare for sectional tournament competition.
